What is an "Envelope" in Docusign?

Modified on Fri, 13 Mar at 3:55 PM

A Docusign envelope is an electronic container used to send documents for signature via Docusign eSignature.

Think of it like sending documents by mail. The envelope contains the documents being sent along with instructions for who needs to sign them.

An envelope is not the document itself. One envelope can contain multiple documents and can be sent to one or more recipients for signing or review.

Envelopes in Deskworks

In Deskworks, an envelope is created each time you send a proposal or contract for signature.

An envelope can include multiple pages and multiple signature fields, but it still counts as one envelope when sent.

For example:

  • Sending a single-page office proposal with one signature field uses one envelope
  • Sending a five-page membership contract with several signature fields still uses one envelope
