Product Categories

Product Categories enable Deskworks to group your Products for reporting purposes, giving you summary information as you want it.

For example: If you have a lot of offices, you may want to know how much you earn from all your offices in one sub-total. Or everything you make from all your types of Virtual Office Products. Or perhaps you have a unique Product Category that you want to report on…Mentors? Event Income, including food? Deskworks can manage all of it.

Product Category Structure

Product Categories are numeric codes formatted as XX-XX.

A good top-level structure to use is:

01-00 — Memberships

02-00 — Reservations & Day Passes

03-00 — Printing (Copy, Scan, Fax, etc.)

04-00 — Mail Services

05-00 — Other Services (a Service being anything that does not fall into one of the above groups)

Note the Product Categories under the top-level grouping for Memberships (01-00) and for Reservations (02-00):

These groupings help to produce several reports, including the Income by Item Report and Pie Chart Graph:

How to Create a New Product Category

To create a new Product Category:

  1. Go to INVENTORY > PRODUCT CATEGORIES
  2. Click ADD+ to open a new set of fields

How to Edit Existing Product Categories

To edit an existing Product Category:

  1. Go to INVENTORY > PRODUCT CATEGORIES
  2. Click into an existing field and re-populate the CODE and/or NAME fields with new information.

Note: Product Category NAMES and CODES can be updated at any time without any data loss
Hidden part numbers on the backend ensure your data remains intact, so you can make changes freely on the front end.
